300 (the movie), is it worth watching the Spartans in Battle

With all the hype about “300 – The movie” that was just released yesterday (3/9/07), and A-/B+ rating on Yahoo movies, I thought that the movie would live up to movies like The Gladiator or Troy. I had a high expectation when I went in cos I went to Warner Bros’ website and the scenes look so real.

Leonidas (Gerard Butler) fights his way through the first wave of Persian infantry I think the best part was when Leonidas thrust the messenger into the pit after getting a nod of approval by Gorgo, his wife aka the queen. I thought that things would get much more interesting and the scenes would be much better. In fact, it was more of a matrix type movie with beef cake Spartans slaughtering the persians and with lots of slow motion effects. I looked like scenes from a winning kill on Doom and you could see blood and heads flying off in slow motion.

Overall, it was a decent show with some plots by the villants that kept things interesting. Too many animated scenes and I would not be suprised if 85-95% of the time, the actors we leaping around in front of green backgrounds. Music/sound effects was great.

If you want to see it, just don’t have a high expectation before you go in. Then again, my opinion is subjective.

About the movie:
The movie wasset around the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy.
